Sometimes you may not have a task request one week, or a last minute cancellation means you’re at a loose end. Here are some ideas of tasks that you could organise and support yourself:
🌸 Guerrilla gardening is all about creating small, nature-rich spaces in our towns and cities wherever there is a safe and sensible space for it. There may be unused planters on street corners or wooden frames built around trees on roads that could be filled with flowers and shrubs. The book 'Get Guerrilla Gardening' is filled with ideas and even mentions GoodGym! If you can’t plant tonight you could do a run looking out for planters/outdoor spaces that you might be able to plant at a later date. Take photos and note their location.
🌳 Visit your local Tiny Forest and pull up weeds wearing gardening gloves.
🥫 Take a tin or two to a local food bank. Ask GoodGymers to bring tins to the session and run to make your delivery.
🐌 Verify a Slow ways walking route by running it and checking for hazards or errors.
🏋️ Move the Masses are on a mission to map and log every outdoor gym in the country so people can get fit for less. Contribute to their Move Map by logging what equipment there is at your local outdoor gym.
🐦 Complete a tree or wildlife survey. National organisations such as the Natural History Museum, RSPB and Wildlife Trust often have citizen science initiatives where the public can get involved with tracking biodiversity.
