Here is an email template you can copy, edit and use for reaching out to new tasks
Hi there,
I’m part of a group of volunteers called GoodGym.
We work with local organisations, charities and community groups in YOUR AREA, getting our
exercise by running/walking to help out with physical tasks (sorting donations, weeding, shovelling
compost etc).
Do you have any jobs we could support you with?
Everything we do is free and we bring our own gardening gloves.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,

Top tips:
- A phone call or meeting someone in person is probably statistically the best way to get a
response - The GoodGym concept can be hard for people to understand! Hopefully the email examples
below will help people grasp what it’s all about. - If you don’t get an immediate response, wait a couple of days and try again. Most people
who work/volunteer for community organisations are very busy and your email might pass
them by. - Try to get their mobile number and email address just in case.
- They may want to meet you before organising a session. If you can do this, great, but if not
say that you’re a volunteer and reassure them that GoodGym groups do this every day
across the country. - Use examples of where you’ve done other GoodGym sessions locally before, or suggest
tasks that might be useful for them e.g. moving donations, cleaning shelves or clearing out
cupboards or a foodbank. - It’s quite easy to sound sales-y. Try to explain in your own ‘voice’ and use as few words as
possible.
If they don’t reply... try this:
Hi there,
Last week I contacted you about our GoodGym group helping out at NAME OF PLACE with any jobs
you might have.
Would I be able to give you a call?
